Roles and Responsibilities

The Personal Information Protection Commission is a council-based independent organization established under the Act on the Protection of Personal Information (Act No. 57 of 2003) with the mission to ensure the proper handling of personal information in order to protect the rights and interests of individuals, while considering the utility of personal information.

It is a commission established under Article 3 of the National Government Organization Act (e.g., Fair Trade Commission, Nuclear Regulation Authority, etc.), and ensured a high degree of independence and political neutrality exercising its authority.
